Your Year to Discover the Universe
Welcome to the Charlottetown RASC International Year of Astronomy 2009 Web site.
400 Year ago in Italy, Galileo pointed the newly invented telescope toward the sky. What he saw changed our understanding of our place in the universe forever. 2009 has been designated by the United Nations as the International Year of Astronomy.
This global effort initiated by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) and UNESCO to help the citizens of the world rediscover their place in the Universe through the day- and night-time sky, and thereby engage a personal sense of wonder and discovery.
On Prince Edward Island, the RASC Charlottetown Centre is inviting you to make this your year to discover astronomy, or get to know it better. This web site is here to connect you to Prince Edward Island News, Events, Activities and Resources for IYA2009. Please bookmark this site and return often throughout the year.
Next Major Event: Fall Sky Tour

Join us October 17th from 7pm - 9:30pm at the Don & Marion McDougall Hall (School of Business), UPEI Campus. From there, we'll be heading to the UPEI Dome for observing through the university's research telescope. This will be a fun night of workshops and stargazing under the fall sky.
Members of the RASC Charlottetown Chapter will be delivering a number of workshops throughout the evening as well as observing sessions at the UPEI Dome robotic telescope and club telescopes outside the dome. We will also have a number of telescopes, binoculars and other astronomy equipment on hand for you to look at and learn about.

This is a rain or shine event. If the weather is poor, we will be providing all workshops and telescope tours.
This events represents one of our club's legacy goals of advanced public outreach for the International Year of Astronomy.
